Borderlands 2 game review (Xbox one)

Lets talk another game I can't get enough of, and a game I'm playing for a 3rd time right now, Borderlands 2.
Borderlands is first person shooter role playing game which casts you as one of a band of daring treasure hunters on the planet Pandora, a beautiful, vast, deadly wasteland crawling with freaky aliens, nasty mutants, and psycho bandits, and home to the greatest treasure in existence, the infamous Vault. This time though your vault hunters are swept up in a war between the Crimson raiders and the planet's Hyperion occupiers, led by the charming and maniacal Handsome Jack, who plans to open the Vault himself and obtain the unimaginable power inside. Given the game's nature, it's surprising that the story is so significant; In Borderlands 2, you kill lots of crazy people, which gets you Experience points you spend on levelling up your character, making them powerful, giving a them a bunch    of wacky powers, and granting them access to increasingly wackier and more powerful guns. all the classes are unique, he gunzerker can duel wield any guns you want, the commando can throw down turrets, the siren has a host of magical powers, and my favourite, the psycho, can unleash his rage and go on stupidly violent buzzaxe rampages. all of the characters have 3 different skill trees, which you advance up by spending XP points on the various skills, with the last skill in the tree being some stupid awesome super power.

All of these characters have access to the game's 87 gazillion guns, each with different stats and with elemental effects that can set enemies on fire, zap them with electricity, or burn them with corrosion. Whatever gun you use in down to preference and situation, with some enemies able to resist elemental effects, and others being particularly weak to them. Enemies can also be slagged, making them easier to damage, and can get suffer critical hits which do even more damage, and can explode into blood and bits, yeah, this game's violent. It's also brilliantly written, both with the enemies ad the characters, particularly a little helper robot called Claptrap and the game's villain, Handsome Jack, who is a absolutely marvellous villain, both charismatic and charming, but completely insane and evil, and voiced brilliantly by Dameon Clarke. The game is also a joy to look at, with a very stylish cell shaded look, goofy designs and eye popping colours in the game's massive range of levels, taking you from frozen glaciers to Barron deserts to green highlands to dense cities and towns. an on the current gen console versions, in addition to having all DLC content, runs at a silky 60 frames a second.

the game isn't perfect though, the missions, of which there are hundreds, are fun, but having to run or drive to and from them is not so fun. the game has a mini map to aid navigation, but it isn't much help, it's very easy to end up going in circles trying to find your mission objectives, and, while some of those missions are memorable, some just aren't, some are annoying like the timed ones with a very tight time window. and some that throw you against vastly more powerful enemies do tend to get on your tits, though most of them come after the end game, and their difficulty depends on your level.

The game's minor faults aside, this game is great for XP and loot grinding, but with fun shooting and crazy skills, funny writing and surprisingly good and sometimes touching story, spearheaded by a magnificent villain. It's stylish, funny, packed with content, and fun to play. If you like loot grinding and laughing, this game is going to appeal to you, give it a try.
