Ghostbusters movie review

Here's what you need to know; scientists Ray, Egon and Peter are in financial trouble, but still believe they're on the cusp of a scientific breakthrough, that breakthrough allows them to become ghost exterminators, who go by the name of the Ghostbusters. But as they run around busting ghosts, a powerful evil is beginning to creep back into the world, one that only the Ghostbusters can stop.
This review was originally planned for Saturday, and it's up late because I'm stupid and I manage time really poorly, with that in mind, Ghostbusters, let's go.

This film starts off in a very fascinating way, showing some cool and spooky paranormal activity in a library, showing the librarian screaming while illuminated by a purple flow, then on to the stupidly catchy Ghostbusters theme, it's a great little intro. Then we are introduced to the characters, so how are they. The Ghostbusters themselves are all great, all of them are brilliantly funny, and all of them are stupidly likable. Peter and Egon in particular are my favourite, Egon is all about the science, he's nerdy, and damn funny, while Peter is all about the ladies, though it's often pretty cringe worthy, I really think that's the point, and just like Egon, pretty much every out of his mouth is gold, he's also the most humorous of the team, which is all the more great. Really the least interesting or funny Ghostbuster is Winston, and he still says some really funny shit. Dana, Peter's love interest, is a pretty cool character too, her and Peter have a pretty funny relationship throughout the film, it's not really a negative overall, but towards the end of the film, the scenes her and Peter share really are made by Peter. Her neighbour though, I personally am not a fan of that character, I just think he's a bit annoying, and I'm not a fan. The film's supporting characters are, surprisingly, pretty cool, Janine is pretty funny with her hinted attraction to Egon, meanwhile, while Peck isn't a very brilliant character by himself, what makes him so great is when the other characters are giving him shit and when he's being a moron, which happens fairly often. I've used the word funny a lot in this review so far, but yeah, this film is fucking funny, it is written brilliantly, and there really isn't a time in this film where nothing made me laugh, it was just funny. but it's not just funny, it's also a very smart film, with plenty of science and technology as well as the slimy supernatural stuff. it's a big part of the film's style, along with the catchy music, and the slime. Ghostbusters is also a very special effects heavy film, and for the most part the effects look great. while sometimes the Hellhounds look a bit dated, they're normally fine, and the proton stream effects and ghosts effects look great, genuinely great, the ghosts also look really cool too, very funky looking. the ghost busting scenes are also great, as is the big final battle of the film, which is absolutely awesome, and a bit crazy, but it's just awesome.

Ghostbusters is brilliant, I think Dana's neighbour is annoying, and some of the effects do look a bit dated, but for the most part the effects still look great, and the film is still stupidly funny, and has some brilliant characters, fun ghost busting action, and some catchy music, and science. Ghostbusters is an absolute must watch.
